How Does a Dildo Feel?

How Does a Dildo Feel?

Editorial Team |

Dildos are among the oldest sex toys ever created, and these predate civilization. Their design was perfected and refined through the years, and today, dildos are created with modern materials and have high-tech features.

Constructed to give the ultimate pleasure and provide sensations that otherwise can’t be felt without penetrative sex, dildos are a fun thing and a go-to sex toy choice for many women. However, the choice of features has become very varied, and many women may feel overwhelmed by the sensations a dildo provides, including how a dildo feels.

Dildo vs. Penis

The main difference, of course, is that a penis is attached to a human, while the dildo is a stand-alone toy that can be used solo or with a partner. Another difference is that a dildo does not pulsate, as it lacks blood flow, unlike a penis.

Also, a dildo will always have the same shape, unlike a penis that will “deflate” if not stimulated correctly. A penis is always at body temperature, while a dildo can be heated or cooled for different sensations. We can keep making comparisons, but you get our point, right?

How Does it Feel to Use a Dildo?

Dildos are crafted to provide pleasure; there are different dildos, and how you use them dramatically affects the sensations you experience. There are small dildos, large dildos, realistic dildos, suction cup dildos, double-ended dildos, G-spot dildos, pegging dildos, inflatable dildos, dual-density dildos, cyber skin dildos, silicone dildos, jelly dildos, TPE dildos, glass dildos, metal dildos, ejaculating dildos, etc. We will list the possibilities here, as every material and shape provides different sensations:

  • Jelly dildos are soft and provide a softer touch and sensation, significantly different from a penis. They can be used to stimulate the clitoris and give soft feelings or to be used for penetrative sex and give a sense of soft, even squishy fullness. Still, jelly is not the most body-safe sex toy material out there, so we suggest you use one with a condom.
  • TPE is another material often used for making dildos that are soft and flexible and provide a pretty realistic feel. While it may look and feel very realistic, the TPE material is considered not very body-friendly, and we advise you to use your TPE dildo with a condom.
  • Silicone is also used for making sex toys, especially dildos. Silicone is a material that can give a realistic touch as it has a soft, silky surface. The silicone dildos can be dual and triple-density to give more pleasant sensations that are very close to feeling like a natural penis.
  • Glass and metal dildos are not flexible like an actual penis is. These are firm, don’t flex at all, and don’t yield or conform to the body. Glass and metal are excellent for temperature play and give intensity while having fun, but you have to be careful when using them, as these may be too firm for some users.

Dildo & Lube

Like every sex toy, the dildo also needs lubrication so it can glide easily. The vagina creates natural lubrication when sufficiently aroused, but you may need some lube at the start. Here, you must know the dildo and lube compatibility, as not all lubes pair with all sex toy materials. Always consult the dildo manufacturer’s instructions on lube compatibility. Or, to be safe, you can stick to quality water-based lubes that work well with all sex toy materials and with all skin types.

Please note that while lube is recommended for vaginal play, if you plan on using a dildo for anal play, this is not optional but mandatory for comfortable use. We suggest you use a thick water-based lube with your silicone or TPE dildos, and you can use a silicone lube with glass or metal dildos.

Using a Dildo is an Individual Thing

Using a dildo can feel very different, and this depends on the material and the model your selected dildo is made from. Generally, the dildo provides a sense of fullness, similar to an actual penis, and it is very different than using your fingers for penetration. Also, you can reach a preferred place like the G-spot, as a dildo allows for easier maneuvering than a penis, and you can also more easily pair it with another sex toy, like, for example, a bullet vibe.

Riding a Dildo is an Exciting, Sexy Activity

As we noted, there are various dildo designs, and one of these is the suction cup dildo – a model with a suction cup base that sticks to most flat surfaces and allows versatility in use. You can stick your suction cup base dildo to a flat surface, and it won’t move at all, which leaves the moving to you. You get to move and control the speed, depth, and angle of penetration, and you can follow your instincts.

If you opt to ride a suction cup dildo hands-free, you get the chance to experiment, see what you like and what you don’t like, and learn your body better. The downside is that you may feel more tired when you finish, on account of the fact that you are doing all the work.

You can also use a dildo for anal use, and this is a pretty different sensation altogether. We have to note that this may be somewhat overwhelming for beginners, so we suggest you get an anal training kit to get used to the sensations of anal penetration before you continue with a dildo for anal use. Experienced users, on the other hand, will find it pleasing, especially when using dildo models specially designed for this use.

Another way to use a dildo is with a partner. They can hold and drive the dildo with their hands, or you can get a suitable dildo harness and use it hands-free. We have to note that different harnesses and dildos are compatible for use with male and female partners.

Why Use a Dildo?

A dildo is an excellent way that allows you to learn about your body, see what you like and dislike, and explore your sexuality. It allows you to satisfy yourself in a very different way, because solo play and self-satisfaction are a preferred sexual activity for many; thus, a dildo is the perfect choice.
